Electrician Safety System

The challenge

Every day, hundreds of field teams perform maintenance and operations on the power grid—such as replacing meters or switching transformers.

Each intervention requires the use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and CPE (Collective Protective Equipment), which are essential for the safety of technicians and the surrounding population.

Currently, each professional carries a portable camera to record their work routine. However, monitoring is limited: safety technicians analyze less than 2% of the recordings, as the daily volume of videos is immense. This means that most risky behaviors and non-compliances are never reviewed, compromising safety, regulatory compliance, and accident prevention.

The solution

The Electrician Safety System (SSE) was developed to automate the analysis of field videos, dramatically expanding the monitoring capabilities of utilities.

The system receives videos of teams’ workdays and applies computer vision AI to automatically detect:
Correct or incorrect use of PPE and EPC during operations
Dangerous behavior during travel, with analysis based on traffic rules
Recordings of up to 8 hours are segmented into blocks organized by intervention, generating short videos with only the relevant segments.
Moments of travel are separated and evaluated according to safe driving rules.
All results are available in a cloud-based portal, where safety technicians can access and review the analyses easily and centrally.

100% of videos are available in a cloud portal for security technicians, replacing the previous process, in which only 2% of recordings were manually reviewed.

The system automatically segments each operation, classifies the type of activity performed, identifies alerts regarding the use or non-use of protective equipment, and calculates a safety index for monitoring.
